‘Sakhi Sangini Sangathan’ was born in 2008. Their objective is to improve the overall condition of women from urban slums in Kutch and surrounding regions.
They acknowledged the absence of adequate amenities and information for the urban slum women and hence they envisioned social, economic, and political empowerment for them.
They have transformed and mobilised them by equipping them with the means to make them aware of what they are going through and tackle their own issues.
It aims to actively involve women in decision-making processes related to local, community, and regional development. By fostering confidence and capability, Sakhi Sangini Sangathan ensures that women become effective partners in shaping their own communities.
About Our Hero
Alka Jani, who is the founding member of Sakhi Sanghani Sangathan, is focused on improving living as well as work conditions for women in slums. With a background in education, she entered the social sector many years ago. Ever since, she has been an integral part of many social movements. She is also one of the founding members of Kutch Mahila Vikas Sangathan, one of the oldest social organisations working in Kutch, addressing various issues.
